15:00 AWST, 17:00 AEST, 18:00 AEDT
Speaker Bio:
Alexia’s Human Factors adventure started when she discovered that interdisciplinary studies could unite her interests. She moved across the Atlantic (from Luxembourg to Canada) to study cognitive science, exploring the mysteries of the mind and human cognition. Along the way, she discovered the world of human factors engineering which led to her next adventure: A Master’s degree, where she researched driver and pilot safety and human-technology/automation interaction through simulators, real-life vehicles, EEG, surveys, and focus groups.
PD Session Synopsis:
Alexia Bierlaire Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and vehicle automation promise safer roads, but what happens when these systems fail? How do system malfunctions impact trust in automation? And how does this shift in trust affect a driver’s capacity to pay attention to, and process, information in their environment? To answer these questions, Alexia spent the past year investigating the effects of system failures and trust in automation on attentional capacity and situation awareness. She will share her Masters research with us, from creating simulator driving scenarios, to diving into the world of EEG, to levelling up her stats skills!
